Casa da Passarella Villa Oliveira Encruzado 2017 was elected the best wine in the competition. In total, 44 wines from the region were distinguished.

The revelation of the winners of the XII “The Best Wines of Dão” Contest took place this Saturday, July 3, in the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal, in Porto, as part of the Essência do Vinho – Summer Edition. With 160 PDO Dão wines registered, from 44 producers in the Region, the competition was organized by the Regional Wine Commission of Dão and chaired by Beatriz Machado, Master in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California at Davis.

The tasting panel was composed of thirty tasters, including winemakers from the various Demarcated Regions, sommeliers from prestigious restaurants, including Michelin Stars, wine critics from the specialized press and representatives of companies linked to the distribution of wines. In a blind tasting, which took place at Solar do Vinho do Dão on the 25th of June, the samples were grouped into the following categories: blended white wines, blended red wines, varietal and sparkling wines.

As a result, 44 medals were awarded, distributed by the Best Wine Contest, four platinum, 28 gold and 11 silver medals. In this XII Edition, the Best Wine in the Competition is Casa da Passarella Villa Oliveira 2017, in category IV – Varietal Wines.

The platinum medals were awarded to the following wines, in each category: Casada Passarella Abanico Reserva Branco 2019; Adega de Penalva Reserva Red 2017; Ladeira da Santa Grande Reserva Touriga Nacional 2017, and Casa de Santar Vinha dos Amores Encruzado 2013.
